Description MATERIALS: Cotton & polyester cloth; cotton, metallic and rayon threads, mirrors, sequins, beads, tassels.
CONSTRUCTION: Machine st., embr : double running, satin, interlaced, btt hole, Romanian, split stitches.
MOTIFS: Phali - Kharek, chokdi, bevdi phali- kharek, chaki, khambiri mor.
STYLE REMARKS: Kharek-style in color palette of Nagar Parkar edged with bias ''toi'' typical of thar parkar. Artisan tries to show a different pattern in each panel.
CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Toran used above door for auspicious occassions.
CULTURAL REMARKS: Embr: toran are used by Hindus throughout Sindh, Guj., Raj. Their leaves resemble the original toran-a string of mango or Asoka tree leaves.
