Description

| MATERIALS: Cotton cloth. CONSTRUCTION: Hand block printed, resist vegetable dyed. MOTIFS: Mada gulo, tinaro, ajrakh no buto, kungri, hanso and kan kharek COLOURS : Indigo, maroon, black and white.. STYLE REMARKS: Border patterns are traditional to Ajrakh. Field patterns are chosen one out of eighteen. Colours are also traditional. Borders and size of the piece depend on its use. Patterns are of Islamic derivation. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Used as either as lungi, turban or shoulder cloth. CULTURAL REMARKS: Since this is known as an Islamic men's cloth it is rarely used by women and traditionally not by Hindus. Also produced in Sindh and western Rajasthan, Badmer in particular.
