| MATERIALS: Synthetic and cotton cloth, cotton threads, mirrors. CONSTRUCTION: Hand stitched embroidered; square chain, cretan, interlaced, detached chain, couched stitches; buttonhole variation used for gathering skirt. MOTIFS: Limbudi tak, makodiyun, mokre, kali tak, daanta, phuldi, and sudo. COLOURS : Multicoloured on deep maroon and white. STYLE REMARKS: Dhebaria work is characterized by extremely dense elaborate stitching. Dark maroon background cloth is typically Dhebaria. Larger motifs are characteristic of middle style. Rabaris gather skirts by nice fine pleating and attach them with a stitch called ''chin''. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: The cut of the dress is similar to that of a grown man's kediyun jacket. The style is ancient and found throughout Rajasthan and Gujarat. CULTURAL REMARKS: A small child wears the dress as a single garment. Older boys wear an embroidered jacket of a similar cut, also called a jhuladi with shalvar or a wrapped lower garment. Jhuladi, Boy's Jacket. |
