Description MATERIALS: Coton cloth, cotton threads, silk threads, mirrors, wrapped tassels and buttons.
CONSTRUCTION: Hand stitched, embroidered; square chain, cretan, double buttonhole, interlaced, satin, back and detached chain stitches.
MOTIFS: Butti, bapariya, popti, makodiyun, ghodi goto , tak bawaliyun and khajalo.
COLOURS : Multicoloured on black , red and white.
STYLE REMARKS: Classic early style. Colours and patterns are prescribed. Early work was finer.
CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Originally applique was a way to make use of old clothes. The gharanu is used by men to carry roti while herding. The decorated version was used in the ceremony of bringing ornaments to a newly engaged girl.
CULTURAL REMARKS: More often gharanu would be made in applique. The motifs are for a chaklo. It was converted to a garanu by adding the white band and four ties.
