Description 
MATERIALS: Cotton , mashru and synthetic cloth, cotton threads, sequins and tassels. CONSTRUCTION: Machine stitched, applique, embroidered: Square chain, cretan, interlaced, romanian and detached chain stitches. MOTIFS: Popti, makodiyun, daanta, kabat and phul. COLOURS : Multicoloured on red (very faded) STYLE REMARKS: Fine applique to resemble chain stitch was developed in 1970's. This style is particular to Sanosara village. Applique was traditionally reserved for quilts, craddle cloth, gharanu and animal trappings. Rickrack was removed, from which you can see original colour. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: The toran is used throughout western India as an auspicious welcoming. The simplest version is a string of auspicious leaves, here represented by the mashru''leaves.'' CULTURAL REMARKS: Rabaris use a toran as part of a seven piece set that decorates the doorway and walls between outer and inner rooms of their house. Toran, doorway decoration.
