Description

MATERIALS: Cotton cloth, cotton threads, mirrors, sequins, synthetic briad and tassels.
CONSTRUCTION: Machine stitched, applique, embroidered; running, detached chain, herringbone, fishbone and interlaced stitches.
MOTIFS: Sudo, phul, poti, kungri, jharmar.
COLOURS : Multicoloured on black.
STYLE REMARKS: sequins and fine line applique are contemporary elements in Kachhi style; the applique emulates embroidery.
CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Used to decorate a doorway. Applique is most often for everyday use.
CULTURAL REMARKS: Rabaris use a toran as part of a seven piece set that decorates the doorway and walls between outer and inner rooms of their house.
