Description |
MATERIALS: Wool and cotton cloth. CONSTRUCTION: Handstitched. MOTIFS: Checks. COLOURS : black and white. STYLE REMARKS: The patterning is achieved by the use of cotton and wool threads, which accept colour differently. Thus, when dyed black, the cotton threads remain white. Skirt has been shortened and width is also less. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: This cotton-wool skirt is worn by elder women of Kachhi and Dhebaria subgroups. Even though today elders may wear a plain black cotton paheranu at home, while going outside the dhabli is considered correct attire. CULTURAL REMARKS: Like the younger woman'spachhedo, it is pleated in front and tucked into a string tied at the waist. Worn with a plain black kapadu similar to the Dhebaria example and a ludi with dark maroon bandhani or, if widowed plain black. Dhabli, wool-cotton skirt. |
