Description

| MATERIALS: Goat hair, cotton thread, mirrors, glass beads, cowrie, cotton cloth. CONSTRUCTION: Braided, wrapped threads, beaded net. MOTIFS: No COLOURS : Red, green, yellow and white. STYLE REMARKS: Kachhi beadwork tends to be simpler than Dhebaria or Vagadia work. The older kankri were beaded around little stuffed cloth ornaments. Later, these were eliminated. Typically, Kachhi netting ends with a cluster of cowries and a larger bead. These are origional beads and cowries. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Worn braided into a young woman's hair. CULTURAL REMARKS: The traditional Kachhi Rabari hairstyle pulls strands of hair from either side together at the back; then these are braided into a single braid. Generally, their hair does not grow very long; the kankri extends the braid. The oldest examples were simple and had detachable ornaments. Kokani, hari ornament |
