Description

| MATERIALS: Acrylic. CONSTRUCTION: Hand woven, supplementary weft patterning. Made in two parts stitched at centre. MOTIFS: Stripes, dotted patterns of joined triangle and crosses at two ends. COLOURS : Black, red, white and orange. STYLE REMARKS: Dotted weaving is typical of Bharwads and Rabaris of Junagadh area. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Worn by Bharwads who are sheep herders. Worn unstitched and wrapped with similar odhani. CULTRUAL REMARKS: Originally made in wool, which was practical for sheep herders. The wrapped skirt is smaller than stitched and gathered versions worn by Rabaris and Ahirs. It is Saurashtra style. The Bharwads migrated to Kutch from Saurashtra. Pahernu. |
