| MATERIALS: Cotton cloth, chemical dyes. CONSTRUCTION: Bandhani, chemical dyed made in two pieces stitched in centre. MOTIFS: Lines of three dots alternating with lines of one dot. Field, lines of four dots alternating with lines of one dot and five circles. COLOURS : Yellow, white, green on maroon and black. STYLE REMARKS: The dot patterns of field are common to odhanis and skirts. Five guls (circles) is a common pattern for odhanis. This pattern was later copied in block print. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Worn for everyday use. The more elaborate motichur was worn for special occassions. Maroon and black combination was used for both skirts and odhanis by Meghvals and Maldharis in Banni. CULTURAL REMARKS: Dots of field were dyed yellow and green by direct dabbing technique after the bandhani was finished. These dyes are fugitive. Bagido, Head Cloth, Veil. |
