| MATERIALS:Silk cloth and cotton cloth, cotton thread, sequence, mirrors, buttons, plastic zari and strings. CONSTRUCTION: Hand and machine stitched. Hand embroidered, square chain, cretan, buttonhole, interlaced, back, romanian and counched stitches. MOTIFS: Limbudi tak, phuldi, shravan, kagra tak, ambo, devdi. COLOURS : Multicoloured on pink and green body with red bandhni. STYLE REMARKS: Fine work with updated motifs was characteristics of Kachhi Rabari work in mid 1980's. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: The backless blouse is worn by Rabaris as well as many communities of Sindh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. It is both cool in hot weather and economical to make. The back is covered by a veil. CULTURAL REMARKS: The Kachhi version has shorter, fitted sleeves, a modern innovation; Dhebaria and Vagadia blouses are looser in general and have longer, looser sleeves. Worn at ceremonies with an embroidered paheranu and ludi veil a bride wears a ghagharo. Kanchali, Blouse. |
