Description

| MATERIALS: Cotton cloth, mashru cloth, cotton threads, cotton cloth tassels and mirrors. CONSTRUCTION: Hand stitched, hand embroidered, sqaure chain, interlaced, herringbone, detached chain, romanian, blanket stitch, hand and machine applique. MOTIFS: Ambo, sudo, mor, paaniari, vichhi, hathi and butti. COLOURS : Multicoloured on black and white. STYLE REMARKS: Pictorial forms were popular until 1960's. Earlier versions were fine and used chain stitch. Towards 1960's figures became bolder and more abstract. Motifs used in this piece are typical of those used in oshikun. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Brought in dowry used in ceremonial pillow. CULTURAL REMARKS : Oshikun went out of style in 1970's.Mashru at back is pattern called Kataria and used for grooms pants and brides skirt. Among Dhebaria and Vagadia, oshikun was usally made with embroidered ends with mashru in centre. Oshikun, Personal Gear. |
