Description

| MATERIALS: Mashru and Cotton cloth, cotton threads, mirrors and strings. CONSTRUCTION: Hand and machine stitched, embroidered, square chain, buttonhole filling, cretan, buttonhole, detached chain, back, couched, satin, interlaced stitches. MOTIFS: Popti, makodiyun, bandh kaanch, limbudi tak, goto, tak bawaliyun, phuldo and gol tak. COLOURS : Multicoloured with yellow and white predominating on orange and black. . STYLE REMARKS: Thick dense square chain stitching is characteristic of contemporary Vagadia work. Most recently, Orange replaces yellow, and acrylic threads are used. The eight pointed star motif and dense buttonhole filling are unusal. Construction of blouses in Vagad used two pieces for front. The below breast in Vagad is separate. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Worn by young women at festival time. CULTURAL REMARKS: The term kamkho is not used by Kachhis. Vagadia Rabaris prefer a completely embroidered blouse for festival time.
