| MATERIALS: Cotton cloth, cotton threads, sequins, buttons, brocades and mirrors. CONSTRUCTION:Hand and machine stitched, applique, embroidered, interlaced, cretan, buttonhole, fly stitches. MOTIFS: Kali tak, makodiyun, aambo, mokre, and sudo. COLOURS :Multicoloured on black. STYLE REMARKS: Applique is not usually used in a theli. The technique is sometimes used just for fashion. Generally interlaced stitches are used to accent applique work. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: The theli is used by most embroidering communities of Kutch. It is a sort of status symbol to bring a deco0rated bag to town for shopping. The style announces the user's identity. CULTURAL REMARKS: This kind of pleated edging is typical of all types of thelis.
