Description

MATERIALS: Woolen cloth.
CONSTRUCTION: Hand woven, hand stitched, fringers. Made in two pieces stitched in centre.
MOTIFS: Geometric motifs woven in ends.
COLOURS : Black on natural.
STYLE REMARKS: Black and white are traditional for Rabaris, The black probably having originally been natural. The woven patterns are similar to those used in a woman's ludi.
CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: The blanket with side borders such as these, called a dhablo or lobdi, is traditional to Gujarat and Rajasthan. Thirteen communities, mostly pastoralists, who traditionally use this type of blanket are understood to hold equal status in the caste hierarchy. They are called ''dhabli bhai.''
CULTURAL REMARKS: Men use the khatho as an all purpose cloth: seat, carrier, cover. The work khatho comes from Sindhi.
