Description

| MATERIALS: Cotton, mashru cloth, cotton threads, mirrors, tassels. CONSTRUCTION: Machine stitched, embroidered chain, herringbone, interlaced, cretan and back stitches, buttonhole filling. MOTIFS: Popti, makodiyun, tak bawaliyun, limbuditak and khajalo. COLOURS : Multicoloured on red and black. STYLE REMARKS: This is oldest style of Kuchhi Rabari. The eight pointed star motif has different names. In toran it is called khajalo. Finished by professional tailor who put the leaves on wrong side of one piece. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Used as part of a seven piece set to decorate a doorway for an auspicious occassions. CULTURAL REMARKS: Part of the seven piece set used to decorate a doorway. The small toran are hung next to square chakla, on either side of the large toran. Toran, wall decoration. |
